The WorkSafe Victoria, TAC, and Wrongs Act legislation necessitate the accreditation of Registered Medical Practitioners. These practitioners are responsible for conducting impairment assessments using American Medical Association Guides (AMA4 Guides). Such assessments offer diverse work opportunities and an alternative income stream for physicians.

Impairment Assessment Training is specialized training involves approved assessment criteria established by the Minister. Its purpose is to ensure a satisfactory standard of achievement among individual practitioners. Primarily designed for physicians seeking accreditation in Victoria, this course enables them to undertake or interpret permanent impairment assessments. The module covers:

  • The key concepts that apply to assessment of Spinal Impairment.
  • The way in which some terms are given specific meaning within the Guides is different than from clinical practice.
  • A logical path for consideration of Spinal Impairment, whether using the Guides, or with use of the Spinal Impairment Guides Modification Document.
  • Apportionment of Impairment: The approach required to disentangle what impairment may or may not be related to a compensable event.

  • Personal Injury Education Foundation (PIEF) is a not-for-profit member-based organisation and Registered Training Organization (RTO). An RTO is a registered provider of nationally recognised qualifications.
