The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, a globally recognised leader in cancer care and drug development, as well as Australia’s largest Phase 1 trials unit and Victoria’s only peritoneal centre, invites applications for a joint Phase 1 Early Drug Development and Lower GI Fellow position. This highly mentored role, embedded within the Phase 1/Early Drug Development and Lower GI Program, is tailored for Advanced Trainees completing or recently completed their FRACP, offering a unique blend of clinical trial expertise and specialised Lower GI cancer care.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality care to patients enrolled in early-phase clinical trials, with a focus on innovative therapies such as immuno-oncology, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), and molecularly targeted agents, including first-in-human studies and novel combinations.
  • Collaborate with the Lower GI tumour stream, managing colorectal cancer trials and participating in outpatient Lower GI clinics.
  • Contribute to clinical trial operations and deliver expert medical oncology care within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Engage in clinically focused translational research, leveraging cutting-edge platforms like genomics integrated into trials.

To provide high quality patient treatment and care, contribute to a research program and participate in education

  • Attendance to selected outpatient clinics and clinics in Day Ward
  • Completes all patient related documentation according to the Centre’s needs
  • Participates in after-hour and weekend cover roster for medical oncology
  • Liaises and communicates with the multidisciplinary treating team
  • Contributes to team meetings and educational activities
  • Actively and regularly participates in peer review patient related activities
  • Participates in departmental research projects and audits
  • Works effectively with all internal and external stakeholders
  • Close liaison with specialist members of the medical oncology Unit
  • Follows hospital policies and procedures

Essential qualifications

  • Medical Qualifications registerable by the Medical Board of Victoria
  • Completed at least two years of registrar level of training in medical oncology
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team setting
  • Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with medical staff and other disciplines
  • Previous clinical trial experience an advantage
