Recipient spotlight
Dr Nancy Merridew
It's been 10 years since Dr Nancy Merridew was awarded the inaugural John Snow Scholarship at the World Congress of Internal Medicine. Her winning presentation was on a large global health project at the University of Queensland, which focused on teaching the Millennium Development Goals and Australian Indigenous Health.
Today, Nancy is a dual RACP Advanced Trainee in Infectious Diseases and General Medicine, along with numerous other medical education commitments. She has continued to maintain a keen awareness of public health on many levels across the complex health systems in throughout Australia and internationally.
“The Scholarship's reflective process consolidated what I'd learned through the project and, as a medical student approaching internship, my mind was opened to the intrinsic exceptional value of public health”.
While it has been challenging to simultaneously keep up her interest in public health at her current stage of training, Nancy has a definite aim to integrate that interest back into her long-term practice following her admission to Fellowship.
