We're committed to achieving equity and cultural safety in Indigenous health and growing the Indigenous Physician workforce. This is recognised our Constitution and Indigenous Strategic Framework.

The Indigenous object of our Constitution (PDF) states the College will:

Demonstrate a commitment to Indigenous aspirations and outcomes by:

  1. respecting and promoting the principles as enshrined in the Uluru Statement from the Heart (PDF), Te Tiriti o Waitangi. and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (PDF)
  2. advancing justice and equity in health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Māori communities
  3. acknowledge the world views, protocols and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and Māori.

Our Indigenous Strategic Framework outlines 5 key priority areas for action from 2018 to 2028.

  1. Contributing to addressing Indigenous health inequities.
  2. Growing the Indigenous physician workforce.
  3. Educating and equipping the physician workforce on Indigenous health and culturally safe practice.
  4. Fostering a culturally safe and competent College.
  5. Meeting the new regulatory standards and requirements of the Australian Medical Council and Medical Council of New Zealand.

Indigenous leadership and collaboration with our partners are important in driving effective and sustainable progress towards Indigenous health equity and the delivery of culturally safe health care that supports the needs of the communities we serve.

Healing Place by Riki Salam of We are 27, developed for the RACP.
The artwork depicts a great place of knowledge and healing.

Māori cultural elements

Tāniko pattern by Kaaterina Kerekere of KE Design developed for RACP.
The foundation of this design comes from Waharua kōpito tāniko motif. This stylised version of the pattern refers to the notion of transformation and change that occurs at such meeting points. For the College it symbolises the trans-Tasman training relationship, connecting the Indigenous peoples of 2 nations and bringing together medical specialists with patients.
