Description

  • Full-time 3-year appointment as academic rheumatologist at Westmead Clinical School, Sydney Medical School, including appointment as clinical academic rheumatologist with Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD, 0.4FTE Staff Specialist equivalent).
  • Opportunity for an early-/mid-career academic to lead research in the Specialty of Rheumatology and to undertake teaching and assessment for MD students.
  • Applications from well-credentialled and well-published non-rheumatologists, who are healthcare professionals or basic scientists will be considered. However, their clinical experience/expertise, and/or research interests need to complement and strengthen the existing interests of the Rheumatology Department (see later).
  • This position has become vacant following retirement of the previous incumbent who held the Clinical Academic position in Rheumatology at Westmead Hospital for > 25 years.
  • Base Salary from $156,103 - $179,998 for a Senior Lecturer or $187,960 - $207,069 for an Associate Professor + 17% superannuation + Full Clinical Loading + Clinical Academic salary (WSLHD) and right of private practice.

Key responsibilities 

In this role, you'll:

  • provide leadership in developing and maintaining a clinical, translational or basic science research program relevant to Rheumatology
  • provide leadership in the development, implementation and promotion of clinical/education programs for MD students relating to Rheumatology
  • provide clinical care as part of the healthcare team in the Specialty of Rheumatology, including actively contributing to Rheumatology Department activities, e.g. quality and safety and service improvement; and
  • promote a culture that is collaborative, team-oriented and one that respects the skill sets and opinions of all staff.

Essential qualifications

  • have a PhD in a field relevant to Rheumatology
  • registered as a medical practitioner in NSW with recognition by AHPRA as a Specialist Rheumatologist and Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians, or equivalent
  • have an emerging national/international reputation and research track record, including publications in peer-reviewed international journals and success in obtaining research funding and supervision of research students
  • have experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives within Rheumatology
  • have a network of relationships with key academic and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of the Specialty, Hospital/School/Faculty and University.
