Description

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) is a statutory authority within the Department of Justice and Community Safety, dedicated to serving and protecting Victorian communities. FRV employs approximately 4,000 firefighters who respond to:

  • fires
  • complex rescues
  • road crashes
  • emergency medical calls
  • hazardous chemical spills
Key Responsibilities
  • part-time role: Preferably 3 days per week
  • remuneration: $325,000 TRP (inclusive of superannuation) full-time equivalent, pro-rata REM based on days worked

As the highest authority on medical advice within FRV, the CMO:

  • acts as a strategic and technical adviser to the executive leadership team
  • provides expertise in medical clinical governance, workers’ compensation, return-to-work practices and auditing of third-party medical practices
  • identifies occupational risks (e.g. combustion toxicology) and provides solutions, supported by occupational hygienists
  • oversees medical incidents and ensures compliance with legislative standards to mitigate risks
  • guides and sets standards for assessments regarding recruitment and fitness for duty (assessments conducted externally)

Essential qualifications

  • fellowship of the Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (RACP)
  • recent AFOEM fellows and those nearing completion are also encouraged to apply
  • must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or hold a valid working visa
  • satisfactory completion of a National Police Records Check
  • experience in fire/emergency services is not a pre-requisite
