The Northern Adelaide Local Health Network is seeking a Consultant to join our highly skilled Medical Emergency Response team.
The Medical Emergency Team now consists 24/7 of a dedicated Basic Physician Trainee (BPT) and dedicated RMO, as well as an intern rostered daily from medicine and a nurse from ICU. Their role is to respond when called to patients with deteriorating physiology or mental state, facilitating improvement or transfer to the Intensive Care Unit. The Medical Emergency Response service now needs a consultant to provide operational, governance and educational support, including being educational supervisor to the four BPTs and four RMOs on the roster.

In this critical role, you will play a pivotal part in shaping and implementing best practices for emergency medical response within our healthcare facilities. Your expertise and leadership will be instrumental in ensuring the highest standards of patient care and safety during critical medical emergencies.
Key responsibilities will include:
- providing expert consultancy and guidance on medical emergency response protocols, procedures, and training programs
- collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement innovative strategies for optimising emergency response capabilities
- conducting comprehensive reviews and analyses of medical emergency incidents, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions
- delivering high-quality training and supervision to undergraduate and post graduate medical trainees, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle critical situations
Essential qualifications
To be eligible for this position, you must hold a Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent. Appropriate Specialist Qualifications and registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with Specialist registration; or another qualification as defined in the SA Medical Officers Award.
