  • MD2 Salary $367,340 - $715,819 P.A. (Pro Rata) (Subject to Private Practice Arrangements) + Large Unit Managerial Allowance
  • Part-Time, Temporary Role - 0.8FTE - 3 Year Term

As Head of Unit – General Medicine at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, you will provide clinical leadership, governance, and vision to ensure the highest standard of care for patients across the General Medicine and Acute Medicine Units.

In this pivotal role, you'll lead a multidisciplinary team, oversee operational excellence, and support safe, efficient, and integrated services that respond to the needs of the community. You'll also maintain a clinical load, applying your expertise to complex cases and ensuring the delivery of coordinated and patient-centred care.

Beyond clinical service, this role offers the opportunity to shape the future of General Medicine. You'll contribute to strategic planning, workforce development, and succession planning, while driving quality improvement initiatives and fostering a culture of research and innovation.

With a strong focus on teaching and mentoring, you'll support the professional growth of medical staff and trainees, ensuring the next generation of clinicians are well prepared to deliver best-practice care.

Essential qualifications

You're a highly experienced and respected medical leader with the qualifications, expertise and vision to guide the General Medicine Unit at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

With a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent, and specialist registration in Acute and General Medicine (or equivalent under the SA Medical Officers Award), you bring both professional credibility and a deep commitment to delivering high-quality care.

  • Registered Medical Practitioner with specialist qualifications in Acute & General Medicine (or equivalent).
  • Proven leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and support multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong clinical expertise, problem-solving ability, and commitment to quality improvement.
  • Experience in teaching, research, budget management and system development. 
  • Excellent communicator with integrity, adaptability and a patient-centred approach.
