Description

Top End Health Services is a unique training environment with unparalleled access to a broad range of tropical pathology including practice of medicine in a remote and resource limited setting. Our patient population is multicultural, with a high number of indigenous patients from diverse linguistic backgrounds. Royal Darwin Hospital is a level three teaching hospital with secondments to Palmerston Regional Hospital, Katherine District Hospital and Gove District Hospital.

Positions exist within the Division of Medicine for:

  • Basic Physician Trainees
  • Vocational Trainees from ICU or ED training programmes seeking specialty rotations as a Junior Medical Registrar
  • Or a non-vocational doctor possessing suitable skills and experience looking for short periods of work in between travel or research activities

Rotations through the following give trainees a broad exposure to patient care in a unique clinical setting:

  • General Medicine
  • Respiratory
  • Nephrology
  • ICU
  • Cardiology
  • Geriatrics
  • Gastroenterology
  • Alcohol and Other Drugs
  • Oncology
  • Haematology
  • Palliative
  • Neurology

Trainees are allocated to these terms as well as to the secondment hospital sites.

Applicants in their 3rd Post Graduate Year and above are encouraged to submit their application.

Registrar - remuneration package range $143,275 - $179,086 (including salary $122,264 - $153,195)

Essential qualifications

  • Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Previous experience as a Medical Registrar or PGY3+ and willing to step up to Registrar role with strong background in medical terms.
  • Sound clinical knowledge in assessment and management of patients and a commitment to provide appropriate high-quality service.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to interact positively in a cross-cultural work environment, as a team member.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of the multi-disciplinary team comprised of doctors, scientists, technicians and infection prevention staff.
  • An interest in and a commitment to improving Aboriginal health.
  • Evidence of commitment to continuing education, teaching, research and quality assurance activities.
  • Proven ability to manage self and others, monitor performance, manage change and develop policy with an understanding of EEO and WHS principles and policy.
  • An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
