WA Country Health Service, Bunbury Hospital is seeking Advanced Trainee Paediatric Registrars for Fixed Term full time and part time appointments for 6 and 12 months starting in February 2026, with possibility of extension(s).

Join a supportive paediatric team in a family-friendly regional hospital offering a comprehensive general paediatrics experience with a neonatal component. The service manages infants born at 34+ weeks (and stabilizes <34 weekers), provides rapid review and neonatal follow-up clinics, and supports a busy ED where paediatric cases make up over 25% of presentations.

As a Regional Paediatric Hub, duties include local on-call support (with consultant backup). Facilities include a 12-bed paediatric ward, 6-bed Special Care Nursery, and 1200+ births annually. The hospital holds RACP accreditation for General Paediatrics with Neonatal, Rural Term, and Community Child Health training. Positions available: one 12-month or two 6-month roles in hospital-based general paediatrics. Applicants must have AHPRA General Registration.

You’ll work alongside a team of dedicated paediatricians (including 4 x 0.4 FTE and 1 full-time), with on-site cover 0800–1600 and after-hours on-call support nearby. The role includes 4 hours of rostered non-clinical time every second Monday and rich educational opportunities—weekly lectures, grand rounds, x-ray and neurology meetings, and teaching involvement. Clinical work covers general paediatrics, ED admissions, special care nursery, and deliveries, with strong registrar and consultant support and a collaborative teaching environment.

Essential qualifications

  1. Eligible for registration by the Medical Board of Australia. 
  2. Enrolled in Paediatrics Training Program, Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) or equivalent programs and demonstrates satisfactory progression appropriate for an advanced trainee. 
  3. Demonstrated current clinical experience in paediatrics and the management of acutely unwell children and neonates.
  4. Demonstrated organizational and time management skills, with highly developed communication, interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  5. Commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching of resident, nursing staff and medical students.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to clinical governance (Patient Safety and Quality), quality assurance, continuous improvement and clinical research in the field of paediatrics and adolescent health. 
  7. Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of other Aboriginal Cultural Respect Framework.
  8. Current C Class driver's license and an ability and willingness to travel including overnight stays away from home.
  9. Experienced or interest in rural paediatric practice in rural setting.
