One of Australia's largest IBD Services manages over 450 patients on biological agents and 1500 on standard therapies, supported by three IBD consultants and 2.3 FTE registered nurses.
Our expanding outpatient clinics are evolving into a comprehensive multidisciplinary service offering colorectal surgical, dietetic, and psychological support. Patients benefit from access to several clinical trials of emerging therapeutic agents, with the Service actively participating in national research networks.
This role presents an exceptional opportunity for a gastroenterologist with tertiary-level IBD experience. You'll join a supportive team of two IBD consultants, an advanced trainee, and 2 clinical nurse specialists, with a dedicated IBD fellow joining in August 2025.
The position involves weekly IBD meetings, monthly surgical multidisciplinary collaboration, and oversight of clinical trials and research activities. For the right candidate, there's potential to assume the clinical lead role for the IBD service. Beyond IBD, Canberra Hospital's Gastroenterology and Hepatology Unit delivers comprehensive services including advanced endoscopic, pancreato-biliary and hepatology care.
The hospital maintains robust research partnerships with ANU, University of Canberra and Australian Catholic University. We offer all specialties except organ transplantation, with well-established postgraduate teaching programs and a fully equipped medical library featuring extensive digital and physical resources.
Essential qualifications
The successful candidate may be considered for a conjoint position with ANU at an academic level aligned with their qualifications and experience. This academic appointment runs concurrent with Canberra Health Services employment, subject to regular performance reviews. While no additional remuneration is attached to the University position, the appointee will report to the University on academic matters and to Canberra Health Services for clinical and research responsibilities.
