Date published: Jul 31, 2025, 13:09 PM

Summary

The Rehabilitation Clinical Indicator Review Working Group is seeking two representatives from the Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine (AFRM) to join the working group.

Description

The Rehabilitation Clinical Indicator Review Working Group is reviewing the existing Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) clinical indicators used in inpatient rehabilitation settings.

This review will ensure that the indicators remain fit-for-purpose, reflecting current evidence, national standards, and best practice in monitoring the quality, safety, and effectiveness of inpatient rehabilitation services. The process will be supported by the Australasian Rehabilitation Outcomes Centre (AROC).

This is an important opportunity to help shape the future of rehabilitation service benchmarking across Australia and New Zealand.

Key responsibilities

Members of the Working Group will be responsible for the following:
  • reviewing the current ACHS clinical indicators used in adult and paediatric inpatient rehabilitation
  • assessing each indicator for clinical relevance, alignment with national standards, and measurability
  • proposing modifications, retirements, or development of new indicators that better reflect contemporary rehabilitation practice
  • ensuring that indicators are meaningful across disciplines, including allied health, nursing, and medical services
  • participating in regular meetings (monthly or as required), contributing to discussions and consensus-based decision-making
  • upholding confidentiality and declaring any actual or perceived conflicts of interest

The group will include representation from medical, nursing, and allied health disciplines, data analysts, quality improvement specialists, ACHS and AROC staff, and (if feasible) a consumer representative. Secretariat support will be provided by AROC and/or ACHS.
