We're committed to the 40:40:20 principle - 40% men, 40% women, 20% any gender - for all College roles, panels, awards, and speakers to support gender equity.

Advocacy for gender equity in medicine
We work with members and organisations to promote gender equity in medicine. By consulting with Specialty Societies and members, we identify challenges and take action to advance gender equity in specific physician fields.
Gender equity in College policies
We're committed to gender equity in medicine and are actively working to make it a part of everything we do. This includes reviewing and updating our policies to address barriers and challenges.
We believe supporting gender equity means ensuring access to flexible training. In 2023, we updated our flexible training policy to provide better support. Learn more at flexible training options.
Supporting gender equity through partnerships
To address systemic challenges faced by our members, we partner with external organisations.
In 2020, we worked with Advancing Women in Health Leadership and invited their chief investigator, Professor Helena Teede, and her team to join our efforts.
GEMWG report
The Gender Equity in Medicine Working Group (GEMWG) was established by the Board in February 2020. Its goal was to define gender equity, understand our members' experiences, and provide recommendations to the Fellowship Committee and Board on supporting gender equity in medicine.
The GEMWG Report, approved by the Board in December 2021, outlines the group's work over the year and shares key findings and insights into the gender equity challenges and systemic barriers our members face.
