Kaupapa o te Komiti | Purpose of the Committee

The Training Program Committee – Basic Training in Adult Medicine (Aotearoa New Zealand) oversees the implementation of the Basic Training program in Aotearoa New Zealand.

The Committee acknowledges Te Tiriti ō Waitangi and the foundational principles of bicultural partnership, participation, and protection it guarantees. We commit that all our policies will consider the impact on the wellbeing and mana of Māori as tangata whenua and ensure that these policies uphold the above principles.

Takohanga | Responsibilities

The Committee meets up to 6 times a year, with 1  kanohi ki te kanohi | face-to-face meeting in Te Whanganui-a-Tara | Wellington and up to 5 hui-ā-ataata | Zoom meetings. Travel costs are covered in accordance with the RACP Travel Policy and Guidelines (PDF).

Most of the work (mahi) will occur during scheduled hui. There is likely to be up to 2 hours of pre-reading required before kanohi ki te kanohi hui, and 1 hour prior to hui-ā-ataata | Zoom. Members may be asked to respond to communications outside scheduled meetings.

Paearu Mātauranga, Paearu Wheako | Knowledge and experience criteria

You must be a current Director of Physician Education (DPE) of the RACP in Adult Internal Medicine.

As a DPE, you provide leadership within the workplace or geographical area; oversee the Basic Training Program; provide support for Basic Trainees with their training sites; provide support to Educational Supervisors and Ward/Service Consultants; and establish/facilitate local support networks.

Your skills and experience as a DPE will help guide the work of the Training Program Committee – Basic Training in its oversight of the PREP Program and the ongoing implementation of the new Basic Training curriculum.

The Committee is also responsible for monitoring trainee progression, accreditation of Training Settings in Aotearoa New Zealand, and development and improvement of the training program curriculum.
