Description

The PBAC is an independent expert committee that advises the Minister for Health and Ageing on matters relating to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.

In making its recommendations to the Minister, the PBAC is required under the National Health Act 1953 (the Act) to consider the clinical effectiveness, safety and cost effectiveness of a medication compared with existing therapies.

Applications are being sought from RACP cardiologists with the appropriate knowledge and experience to serve on the PBAC.

Terms of appointment
  • All appointments to the PBAC are considered by the Federal Minister for Health and Ageing.
  • The PBAC meets 3 times a year for 3-day sessions to review PBS listing applications and may hold up to 3 additional 1-day meetings annually.
  • Members are appointed for a 4-year term.
  • Remuneration is provided for appointed members.

Note: any successful applicant to the PBAC would undertake the role in their capacity as an individual expert and not as a formal representative of the College.
