Kaupapa o te Komiti | Purpose of the Committee

The Training Program Committee – Basic Training in Paediatrics & Child Health Medicine (Aotearoa New Zealand) is responsible for the oversight of the Basic Training program in the Division in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Takohanga | Responsibilities

The Committee meets up to 6 times a year, of which 1 may be kanohi ki te kanohi | face-to-face in Te Whanganui-a-Tara | Wellington. Travel costs are covered in accordance with the RACP Travel Policy. The remainder of the meetings, up to 5, would be hui-ā-ataata | Zoom.

Most of the mahi will occur during scheduled hui. There is likely to be up to 2 hours of pre-reading required before kanohi ki te kanohi hui, and 1 hour prior to hui-ā-ataata | Zoom. Members may be asked to respond to communication out of session.

Paearu Mātauranga, Paearu Wheako | Knowledge and experience criteria

To be eligible, the candidate must be a current Director of Paediatric Education (DPE) and/or Educational Supervisor of the RACP in Paediatrics & Child Health.

  • As a DPE, you provide leadership within the workplace or geographical area; oversee the Basic Training Program; provide support for Basic Trainees with their training sites; provide support to Basic Trainees, Educational Supervisors and Ward/Service Consultants; and establish/facilitate local support networks.
  • As an Educational Supervisor, you oversee the Basic Training Program within your hospital, in collaboration with your DPE; provide feedback and support to Basic Trainees; and assist with training and assessment.

Your skills and experience will help to guide the work of the Training Program Committee – Basic Training in its oversight of the PREP Program and the ongoing implementation of the new Basic Training curriculum. The Committee is also responsible for monitoring trainee progression, accreditation of Training Settings in Aotearoa New Zealand, and development and improvement of the training program curriculum.
