Summary

The RACP seeks expressions of interest from Adult Medicine and Paediatrics & Child Health Division Fellows in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand to become an accreditor.

Description

The College and the Adult Internal Medicine and Paediatrics & Child Health Basic Training Committees are responsible for ensuring that all training in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand is undertaken in accredited training settings.

The accreditation of settings for Basic Training is an essential activity that ensures high quality training environments for tomorrow’s physicians. This is an exciting time to become an accreditor as we're rolling out our new Basic Training accreditation program.

This year there are a number of settings that require an accreditation visit. As an accreditor, you will assist with local and/or interstate visits based on your availability.

Visits will take approximately 5 hours. All visits will adhere with local COVID-19 public health orders and restrictions. Virtual visits via videoconference will be conducted if needed.

Travel costs and expenses incurred by accreditors will be covered by the College as outlined in the RACP Travel Policy and Guidelines (PDF).

Accreditors report to the College Accreditation Subcommittee of the Basic Training Adult Internal Medicine and Paediatrics & Child Health Divisions and will be eligible to claim CPD points for their accreditation activities.

Responsibilities
  • Review all submitted accreditation documentation.
  • Interview staff and trainees at the setting.
  • Assess the training setting suitability for training against the Standards and Requirements.
  • Contribute to the Accreditation Findings report.
  • Recommend an accreditation decision for consideration of the Accreditation Subcommittee.
Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for the role, you must:

  • be a Fellow of the Adult Medicine or Paediatrics & Child Health Division
  • have at least 2 years of specialist experience
  • have participated in a medical education program

Prior experience in accreditation is desirable but not essential. Training and support will be provided.
