The WorkSafe Victoria, TAC, and Wrongs Act legislation require this accreditation of Registered Medical Practitioners performing impairment assessments using American Medical Association Guides (AMA4 Guides). These assessments offer diversified work opportunities and alternative income streams for physicians.

The Impairment Assessment Training includes assessment criteria approved by the Minister to ensure a satisfactory standard of achievement by individual practitioners. This self-paced online course is intended for physicians seeking accreditation to undertake or interpret permanent impairment assessments in Victoria.

This module covers the evaluation criteria from Chapter 7 of the Guides (the Hematopoietic System). The module includes:

  • The methodology in Chapter 7 to evaluate impairment of disorders of red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, coagulation proteins and the immune defence system.
  • Approach to assess impairment from splenectomy.
  • Approach to be taken to assess impairment associated with permanent need for use of blood thinners.

Personal Injury Education Foundation (PIEF) is a not-for-profit member-based organisation and registered training organisation, PIEF works towards improving the professionalism and capability of the personal injury and disability management industries.
