Specialty society webinar pilot commences

In February, the Adult Medicine Division of the College, began work on the Specialty society webinar pilot  program. Specialty societies affiliated with the RACP were invited to apply, through a competitive process, to host one of  the 10 specialty society webinars series.

The first of these were presented in May, featuring talks by:

  • Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists (ANZAN)
  • Partnership: Endocrine Society of Australia (ESA), the Australian Diabetes Society (ADS) and the Australian and New Zealand Bone and Mineral Society (ANZBMS)
  • Australian and New Zealand Society of Nephrology (ANZSN)
  • Medical Oncology Group of Australia (MOGA)
  • Internal Medicine Society of Australia and New Zealand (IMSANZ)
  • Australasian Society of Infectious Diseases (ASID)
  • Human Genetics Society of Australasia (HGSA), through the Australasian Association of Clinical Geneticists (AACG)
  • Australasian Sleep Association (ASA)
  • Australian and New Zealand Society for Geriatric Medicine (ANZSGM).
The pilot program is based on the understanding that a society develops and provides CPD content to their members via a series of five live hour-long webinars. The College provides the webinar platform, facilitates and records each webinar, and shares the recording with the broader College membership via the College website.

The live webinars are first available exclusively to members of the society presenting the webinar, and the recordings are then published on the RACP website two weeks later.

The general format for each webinar is a 30 minute presentation followed by 30 minutes of question time – however it is very much up to each society and their speakers to determine how they will use each webinar presentation.

This pilot is a genuine partnership program between specialty societies and the College where both parties share responsibility for the delivery of the webinars.

Feedback received so far indicates this is a highly valued activity. Examples we’ve received from members include:

“It’s a great initiative on the part of the RACP.”

“I have used it before - very handy and easy to load from work or home.”

“I have greatly enjoyed the webinar format which has allowed me to gain education whilst still preparing my one year old for bed.”

“Very up to date, clinically relevant and evidence based. Very clearly presented.”

“Relevant and entertaining.”
