Genomics in Focus webinar: Paediatric Cardiology

The Genomics in Focus webinars provide practical guidance about the delivery of genomic healthcare across a number of specialties including cardiology and oncology. Each webinar is hosted by a guest speaker who is an expert in their field.

Congenital heart disorders are a leading cause of paediatric mortality in Australia. Genomic testing can help identify the underlying genetic cause of many congenital heart conditions. Paediatric cardiologists are now able to order Medicare-funded genetic testing to aid the diagnosis and management of genetic cardiac conditions in the paediatric setting.

About the speaker

Dr Claire Lawley is a paediatric cardiologist with a special interest in heritable cardiac conditions and paediatric electrophysiology. She currently works at the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network and is a Senior Clinical Lecturer with the University of Sydney. She was awarded her PhD through the University of Sydney in 2019. Her ongoing research interests are in paediatric-onset heritable cardiac conditions and sudden cardiac arrest with current collaborators from The Garvan Institute and University College London. She has previously worked in the Centre for Inherited Cardiovascular Diseases at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London and with the Inherited Cardiac Conditions team at Royal Brompton Hospital.
