What's changing?
Trainees in selected training programs will start using the new curricula, including the curriculum standards and work-based learning and assessment tools supported by the Training Management Platform (TMP). This will change how trainees and educators plan learning, record feedback and assess performance against the standards to determine how trainees progress through training.

When is it changing?
Rollout of the new curricula will start from early December 2024. Applications for entry into the training program will open in TMP for first year trainees starting in 2025. Advanced Trainees who started in 2024 will be able to start using TMP, but don't need to submit an application for entry. Their training program information has been loaded into TMP, however rotation data for training undertaken in 2024 won't be available until March 2025.
We encourage trainees to meet with the relevant Director of Physician/Paediatric Education (DPE), supervisor and/or medical education staff at their training setting prior to completing the learning and assessment requirements.
2025 program requirements
Amendments to the 2025 program requirements have been made to ease the learning journey and provide time for supervisors and trainees to familiarise themselves with the curricula and TMP.
Click on the links below to access RACP Online Learning and see the curricula standards and learning teaching and assessment (LTA) programs for the training programs using a new curriculum.

Advanced Training new curricula
Who's not affected by the changes in 2025
The following trainees will not be affected by the changes and will continue to follow the PREP curricula and handbooks, using existing training portals and assessments:
- existing PREP Trainees who started Basic Training before 2025 or in the 6 selected Advanced Training programs before 2024
- Advanced Trainees in RACP Advanced Training programs not listed above
We've developed new curricula for the remaining RACP Advanced Training programs. There won't be any changes to these programs until at least the start of 2026.
More information about implementation of the remaining Advanced Training curricula will be provided when it becomes available.
Access to the Training Management Platform (TMP)
Access TMP
To access the TMP, you'll need an RACP user ID and password.
We use multi-factor authentication (MFA) and recommend you install the Microsoft Authenticator app or SMS to verify your identity. Find out more about MFA and how we protect your data.
The following resources will help you to understand the basic navigation and functionality of the TMP portal, including how to log in.
Don’t have an RACP account?
- New RACP trainees can complete a new user form to set up an RACP account login to access TMP to submit their application to enter an RACP training program.
- For supervisors without an RACP account, trainees can provide a supervisor’s contact details in TMP for staff to create an RACP account and share login details with the supervisor.
Educator roles in TMP
Network/setting DPE roles will be automatically linked to their relevant training program settings. DPEs will review and approve a trainee’s application; however, they will not have full oversight of the trainee’s records until the trainee has completed and submitted their rotation plan.
Training Program Coordinator (TPC) roles in TMP have been assigned to Medical education staff (supporting Basic Training programs) to allow access to trainee TMP records to support the functions of the DPE.
DPEs should contact BasicTraining@racp.edu.au or basic.training@racp.org.nz if they need a TPC role assigned.
Education supervisor and Rotation supervisor roles are created once a trainee has nominated the user as a supervisor in TMP. Supervisors will only have access to trainee records while they are nominated as a trainee's supervisor in TMP. Access will cease 60 days after the rotation end date.
Entry into training program
Application
First year trainees starting Basic Training or the 6 selected Advanced Training programs in 2025 need to apply for entry into the relevant training program through TMP. Trainees need to demonstrate (and provide evidence where applicable) that they have met the program entry criteria.
Trainees can submit rotation plans and nominate their supervisors in TMP while waiting for approval of their entry application.
Closing date: Friday, 28 February 2025
Approval
Basic Training
DPEs and/or Training Program Coordinators need to approve applications for entry into training. See the Setting/Network DPE/TPC guide on how to approve an application (PDF) for more information.
The process is as follows:
- Receive a TMP-generated email notification once a trainee applies for Basic Training at your setting.
- Log into TMP and navigate to ‘My assigned actions’. You or your Training Program Coordinator (TPC) can review trainees’ applications and approve, decline or request more information.
- Medical education staff assigned a TPC role are granted access to trainee TMP records to support the functions of the DPE.
Advanced Training
Entry applications for Advanced Training will be approved by RACP staff or the relevant overseeing committee. Advanced Trainees who started any of the 6 selected programs in 2024 don't need to submit an entry application if they're continuing training in 2025, however they'll need to submit rotation plan(s) for the 2025 training year.
Rotation plans
The rotation plan enables trainees to self-assess learning gaps, curriculum needs, and local opportunities, fostering a shared understanding of rotation goals with the supervisor. It'll help to determine how time spent in training meets the clinical or professional experience requirements for a program.
Trainees need to log into TMP and navigate to the ‘Training plan’ tab to submit rotation plan(s) for each of their 2025 rotations (or at least the first half of 2025). Trainees can re-submit a rotation plan after the rotation starts if there are changes to rotations at a later date. If a trainee is interrupting their training during 2025, this should also be submitted as a rotation plan in TMP.
Closing date: Friday, 28 February 2025
For more information on how to submit your rotation plan, see the Plan and support learning resources on RACP Online Learning.
Plan learning
Trainees should meet with setting educators about their rotation allocations to enable completion of rotation plan(s) including the rotation supervisor, rotation type, and learning opportunities within the rotation.
Nominating Supervisors
Basic Trainees should navigate to the ‘Training plan’ tab in TMP to:
- nominate an Education Supervisor (ES), under ‘Program Level Supervisor’
- nominate a Rotation Supervisor (RS), under a Rotation plan
Watch this short video on how a Basic Trainee nominates an Education Supervisor in TMP
This can be updated later if a Basic Trainee doesn't yet know who their supervisors are.
Advanced Trainees should navigate to the ‘Training plan’ tab in TMP to:
- nominate 2 Rotation Supervisors in the rotation plan before submitting
- update any changes in supervisor details in the rotation plan
Supervisors will:
- receive a TMP-generated email notification when nominated as a supervisor by a trainee in a rotation plan
- need to log into TMP and navigate to ‘My assigned actions’ to review and accept, or decline, the supervisor nomination
- have access to individual trainee records while they're nominated as a trainee’s Supervisor in TMP
Training and support resources
Training resources including on demand workshops, quick guides and TMP user instructions are available on RACP Online Learning to guide educators and trainees on how to use the new curricula and TMP, including submission of the rotation plan and work-based assessments.

These resources are designed to provide trainees the information they need to get started with their training journey using the RACP’s new curricula. Trainees should aim to complete this learning resource within the first 6 months of training:
Just-in-time Support
Just-in-Time (JIT) support sessions provide direct support to help you navigate the new curriculum and Training Management Platform (TMP). These aren't formal training sessions but provide a quick overview of processes and guidance from RACP team members on how to complete or approve a training application or rotation plan.
Find out more about Just-In-Time support sessions.
Feedback and evaluation
Program evaluation of the new basic and advanced training curricula is occurring as a continuous process from implementation through to graduate outcomes.
Continuous evaluation will enable us to monitor new curricula implementation and outcomes and assure program efficiency while identifying opportunities for improvement for current trainees and for subsequent cohorts. The aims of the Curricula Renewal evaluation are:
- To evaluate the initial implementation of the new RACP training curricula to inform their ongoing implementation. This includes iterative feedback loops of participant feedback early in implementation to assist in amendments if needed and support successful implementation through iterative waves and cohorts.
- To evaluate how and to what extent the new RACP training curricula meet the objectives of curricula renewal, including graduate outcomes and the adoption of competency-based medical education (CBME) principles.
You can provide feedback anytime about your experiences with the new curriculum by completing our feedback survey. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes to complete.
Your feedback will help us to:
- identify areas for improvement to inform ongoing program development
- facilitate sufficient support for trainees and educators
- understand what's working well in the new curriculum
See the Educational research and evaluation page for more details on the College’s approach to evaluation and read our published reports.
