Fee Initiative Guidelines
Privacy information
Any information submitted as part of the Fee Initiative will be retained securely, handled, and stored in accordance with our Privacy Policy and treated as confidential except for the purpose of further assessing a trainee’s suitability for the Initiative and for our administrative and statistical purposes.
We acknowledge that some of the information requested in the application form is sensitive in nature. We're conscious of our obligations under anti-discrimination law and have no intention of using the information provided in the application form in any way that would contravene those laws. Rather it's our intention to use the information consistently with the College’s Indigenous Strategic Framework.

Application and assessment
Once a trainee’s participation in the initiative is accepted and confirmed, the relevant fees will be waived from that point onward until the completion of advanced training, subject to satisfactory training progression.
Applications will:
- only be assessed if they meet all of the eligibility criteria.
- be prioritised for assessment in the order they are received by the College
- not be considered if they are incomplete or received after the closing date
- be assessed against the Initiative's eligibility criteria
The College's assessment and outcome of the application form is final and not subject to review under the College’s Reconsideration, Review and Appeals Process By-Law.
The procedure for assessing applications described here applies to the Fee Initiative only and isn't applicable to the RACP Indigenous Health Scholarship Program and/or other College awards that trainees may also be eligible for.
Showing proof of Indigeneity
We may request evidence of information provided in the application form.
Documentation submitted as part of the application form to show proof of Indigeneity will be reviewed by the College’s Senior Indigenous team members and may be referred to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Committee (ATSIHC) for final review and decision.
Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples
Provide confirmation in writing by the Board of an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander incorporated organisation that you meet all of the following:
- you're an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person by descent
- you identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person
- you're recognised by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community through which you are associated as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person
If you are unable to meet these criteria, you may be asked to provide proof that you have learnt Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural knowledge throughout your life.
Māori
Please choose one from the following:
- a letter of support from a Kaumātua endorsing your whakapapa
- a letter from your iwi confirming your iwi/ Hapū registration
- other – please specify
Pacific peoples
Please choose one from the below options:
- a letter from a Pacific educational institution, faculty, school, department or government body that you're recognised as a Pacific person
- a letter of recognition from an Indigenous/Pacific Community Group, Pacific cultural leader or church minister
- other – please specify
Notification and written acceptance
All trainees will be notified of the outcome of their application via email.
Trainees who receive an offer to participate in the Initiative will be notified of any terms and conditions by the College. Trainees must accept the offer in writing via return email and will then be contacted by the College to confirm any necessary payment arrangements.
Exemption process
While the College will make every effort to proactively waive any eligible fees under the Fee Initiative for participants throughout Basic and Advanced Training, if a participant does pay a fee that is eligible for exemption, the College will reimburse the amount.
Note: Reimbursement may take up to 4 weeks once payment arrangements have been confirmed between the College and the trainee. Reimbursements will be made using the same payment method used by the participant.
Revocation of the Fee Initiative
Participation in the Initiative may be revoked at any time by the College if the trainee, in the opinion of the College:
- Doesn't meet the eligibility criteria for the Initiative
- Doesn't comply with the College Code of Conduct
- Is guilty of serious misconduct, including providing inaccurate or misleading information in their application form.
The College may also mandate a return of any fees waived or reimbursed under the Initiative if a trainee is subsequently found to have not met the eligibility criteria, breached the Code of Conduct, or provided inaccurate or misleading information in their application form during the period of participation in the Initiative.
