RACP election results announced

Professor John Wilson has been announced as the Royal Australasian College of Physicians’ (RACP) next President-Elect.

Professor Wilson will begin his two-year term as RACP President-Elect at the conclusion of the Annual General Meeting on 14 May 2018. He will then serve as RACP President for two years from 2020, taking over from incoming President Associate Professor Mark Lane.

Professor Wilson has practised as a specialist physician for more than 25 years, working in Australia and the United Kingdom. His registration covers general medicine, respiratory and sleep medicine as well as intensive care medicine.
 
Four other Directors have been appointed to the Board. They are: Professor Niki Ellis (two year term), Dr Jacqueline Small (three year term), Professor Paul Komesaroff (three year term) and Dr Alice Grey (two year term).

The College has an established practice of appointing independent scrutineers to oversight the conduct of the election. The scrutineer’s report is yet to be received by the College.

Dr Alice Grey was elected unopposed.

Elections for the President-Elect positions of Paediatric & Child Health Division (PCHD), Adult Medicine Division (AMD), Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (AFPHM), Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine (AFRM), Australasian Faculty of Occupational & Environmental Medicine (AFOEM), Australasian Chapter of Addiction Medicine (AChAM), Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine (AChPM) and Australasian Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine (AChSHM) were uncontested and successful candidates have been announced. 

They are:

  • AMD President-Elect Professor Donald Campbell
  • AFPHM President-Elect Professor Robyn Lucas
  • AFRM President-Elect Dr Greg Bowring
  • AFOEM President-Elect Professor Malcolm Sim
  • AChAM President-Elect Associate Professor Nicholas Lintzeris
  • AChPM President-Elect Dr Michelle Gold
  • AChSHM President-Elect Professor Christopher Fairley
The Board has received complaints in relation to the conduct of certain candidates during the course of the election, involving possible breaches of College bylaws and Australian legislation. 

An independent third party will be appointed promptly to review the matters detailed in the complaints for subsequent consideration by the Board.
