RACP supports release of Second Australian Atlas of Healthcare Variation

The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) has today welcomed the release of the Second Australian Atlas of Healthcare Variation – a publication which identifies variation in healthcare.

The Second Australian Atlas of Healthcare Variation focuses on four areas including chronic disease and infection, cardiovascular conditions, women’s health and maternity and surgical interventions.

RACP President Dr Catherine Yelland said the publication is an invaluable resource that many RACP Fellows had worked on. “The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care is to be congratulated for its publication of the Second Australian Atlas of Healthcare Variation,” explained Dr Yelland.

“The identification of variations is a major step towards improving the quality and value of health care services. Now we have this information, it is critical that we improve our understanding of why variation is occurring so it can be reduced, where necessary.”
