Inequities in Child Health
What are child health inequities?
All children, no matter where they live or who they are, should have the same opportunities to live a healthy life. However, many factors such as socioeconomic status, geography, and level of parental education can influence a child’s health and development, and access to health care. The disadvantage many children experience means they are at increased risk for chronic health, wellbeing and development issues.
Child health inequities can be addressed with the right policies, programs and accountability measures in place. The RACP is calling on government, policy makers and practitioners to join in efforts to urgently tackle children’s inequitable health, development and wellbeing.
Position Statement
The RACP’s position statement on inequities in child health was launched on 14 May 2018. The position statement is intended to inform physicians and policy-makers, and support our advocacy work on child health inequities.
