Meritorious Awards by Nomination

These terms and conditions apply to each and every nomination for a Meritorious Award or Prize (“Award”). 


Terms and conditions

1. Nominations

Nominations for any Award must be made to the College:

1.1 In writing or online using the approved nomination form (downloadable from the College’s website); and

1.2 Addressing each of the eligibility criteria for that Award, or explaining why a certain eligibility criterion should not apply.

1.3 Nominations must be submitted to the College by the closing date and time advised by the College;

1.4 By or accepting the Award, participants agree to be bound by the Guidelines advertised for Award;

1.5 Nominators are expected to have informed the nominee of the intent to nominate and ensure that any permissions are received prior to submitting the nomination.

2. Assessment

2.1 The College assesses and grants the Award in its sole discretion. The decision of the College is final, and is not subject to reconsideration, review or appeal.

2.2 All Awards are assessed on merit.

2.3 The College may, in its sole discretion, reject any nomination at any time during the assessment process for any reason, including but not limited to:

  1. the nomination is incomplete or misleading;
  2. the nomination contains incorrect information; or
  3. the nomination does not comply with eligibility criteria for that Award.

3. Deferrals

3.1 Any request to defer an Award must be made:

  1. in writing to the College;
  2. setting out the reasons for the request.

3.2 Any such request will be considered by the College on a case by case basis and will be determined by the College in its sole discretion. The decision of the College is final, and is not subject to reconsideration, review or appeal.

4. Acceptance and taking up of an Award

4.1 Awards must be taken as offered and are not transferable, exchangeable or redeemable for cash.

4.2 To take up an Award, any recipient must:

  1. accept any Award in writing;
  2. agree to comply with these terms and conditions by checking the relevant box on the acceptance form;

4.3 The College reserves the rights to make a joint Award between two or more nominees where considered to be of equal merit.

5. Payment of Award and Prize Monies

5.1 Payment processing by the College may take up to four weeks from receipt of bank details.

5.2 It is the responsibility of the recipient of any Award to seek their own advice on tax matters, and no tax advice can or will be provided by the College. 

6. RACP Congress

6.1 If the Prize entitlements include attendance at and/or participation in the RACP Congress, the College may change the Prize entitlements at any time without notice in its absolute discretion if:

  1. RACP Congress is cancelled or postponed; or
  2. the structure of the event is changed.

7.Travel

7.1 If flights and accommodation are included in the Award entitlements but are not needed due to the recipient’s proximity to the event venue, no alternative entitlements are offered.

7.2. Taxi fares, airport transfers, meals and other expenses are expressly excluded from the Award entitlements unless agreed to in writing by the College prior to the event.

7.3. Any travel is undertaken at the recipient’s own risk and the College cannot be held responsible for quarantine or isolation expenses and/or delays in or cancellation of travel and consequent expenses due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, including, but not limited to, flights or accommodation over and above the current Award entitlements

8. Revocation of Awards

8.1 An Award will be revoked by the College if the recipient of an Award:

  1. does not comply with all terms and conditions of the Award or with these terms and conditions;
  2. fails to meet the eligibility criteria for the Award;
  3. fails to comply with the College Code of Conduct;
  4. is guilty of serious misconduct.

8.2 If any of the above occurs the College may, in its sole discretion:

  1. require that the recipient repay the amount of the Award to the College; and
  2. require that the recipient, if the Award is in the form of goods, return those goods to the College.

9. Posthumous Award or Prize

9.1 Posthumous awards will only be considered where the nomination was received on or before the closing date, and the nominee died after the closing date or during the final Assessment and Acceptance process.

10. Privacy

The College complies with the requirements of the national Privacy Act 1988 (Cwlth) (Australia) and the Privacy Act 1993 (New Zealand), and has adopted the Australian National Privacy Principles as the guidelines for ensuring the protection of personal information in its care (see the College Privacy Policy). 

11. All decisions are final

All decisions in relation of any aspect of the Awards or these terms and conditions are made at the sole discretion of the College, and are final. Correspondence will not be entered into. Decisions made in relation to any aspect of the Awards or Prizes or these terms and conditions are not subject to reconsideration, review or appeal.
