In today's diverse, multicultural society, ensuring culturally safe and responsive services is crucial for a truly connected future. Unconscious bias and a lack of cultural awareness can create significant barriers for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, families, and communities when accessing services.
This presentation tackles these challenges by exploring the concept of cultural safety, its historical context, and its vital role in working effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, families, and communities.
Cultural Safety is not just about individual interactions. It's about addressing the broader social issues of racism and discrimination that can impact service delivery.
By fostering culturally safe practices, we can create a more just and equitable society for all. Drawing on her experiences as a Gooreng Gooreng and Yuggera person, Kate aims to share personal and professional examples of culturally safe and unsafe practices to bridge the gap between good intentions and real-world application.
