The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) have released their updated Alcohol Policy.

The Policy highlights the influence alcohol is having on individuals, families and communities and makes recommendations regarding how its impact can be reduced.

It focuses on the need for a comprehensive, evidence-based and national approach to combating the harms of alcohol, including measures to:

  • prevent the industry promoting alcohol to children and adolescents
  • reduce the availability of alcohol through measures to restrict outlet density and trading hours
  • introduce universal volumetric taxation and a floor price for alcohol
  • ensure access to effective treatment services.
