Description

The Royal Adelaide Hospital is large tertiary referral and teaching centre in South Australia. The IBD service treats over 850 patients and is involved in both pharmaceutical clinical trials and investigator-initiated research. Particular research interests include primary sclerosing cholangitis, adolescent transition in IBD, and the clinical delivery of IBD services. It is a GENIUS recognised training site for gastrointestinal ultrasound.

During the IBD Fellowship, the fellow will gain experience in advanced IBD management, including new and novel therapies, as well as partake in their own independent research. They will have the opportunity to undertake training in gastrointestinal ultrasound. They will be mentored via an experienced IBD team to develop their IBD knowledge and skills, as well as develop their research skills in both pharmaceutical and investigator-initiated clinical trials.

This is a 1-year (FTE 0.8) non-core training position.

Primary objective of the role

  • Attend IBD clinics and endoscopy lists
  • Attend IBD clinics, General Gastroenterology clinic and endoscopy lists
  • Perform intestinal ultrasound in outpatient and inpatient setting under supervision
  • Chair the IBD Multi-Disciplinary Meeting fortnightly
  • Undertake IBD related research – own independent project and as sub-investigator in pharmaceutical clinical trials
  • Assist ward registrars with complex IBD patients
  • Participate in the on call and inpatient consults roster

    Essential qualifications

    • MBBS or equivalent degree able to be registered with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Authority (AHPRA)
    • Passed FRACP Part 1 and Part 2 clinical examinations
    • Current National Police Clearance (NPC)
    • Working with Children Check
    • Immunisation screening as indicated in the role description

    Preferred qualifications

    • Completed 2 core years of Gastroenterology Advanced Training
    • Completed Conjoint Committee Gastrointestinal Endoscopy/Colonoscopy requirements
    • Completed or nearly completed RACP Advanced Training Research Project
