Post-Fellowship training

If you’re already a Fellow of the College, you can apply to do Advanced Training in a different specialty. This is called Post-Fellowship training.

Post-Fellowship training follows a similar structure to pre-Fellowship Advanced Training. You’ll need to:

  • get approval before you begin
  • meet the same rules and requirements, unless stated otherwise
  • be supervised by the same committee that oversees pre-Fellowship trainees
  • follow the College’s education policies, including those for Flexible Training and Progression through Training

Go to Advanced Training to see entry requirements for each program and how to apply.

You may be allowed to do Post-Fellowship training while working in a consultant role, but this is up to the committee. You’ll need to show in advance that:

  • your role offers enough teaching and learning opportunities
  • the work you do is relevant to the training programs
  • you have suitable supervision

Note: You'll still need to complete all the standard training requirements.

These applications can be complicated because training sites need time to carefully plan how to provide proper learning and teaching opportunities while you're working as a consultant. To give everyone enough time to set this up properly, submit your application as early as you can.

The committee may also recognise some of your previous training or experience, based on how closely it matches the requirements. This is covered in the Recognition of Prior Learning policy.
