Description

Our Broome Hospital Advanced Trainee positions are accredited for up to 12 months of Advanced Training in General Medicine including Acute General Medicine (6-month applications will also be considered).

You’ll be based in Broome and work across the Kimberley region, providing care in:

  • Hospital inpatient wards
  • Outpatient clinics
  • Remote community clinics
  • Aboriginal Health Services

Around 1/3 of workdays involve travel outside Broome by road or plane (including light aircraft).

This role offers hands‑on experience in rural, remote, and Indigenous health, as well as community‑based care. You’ll work with a supportive team of experienced physicians managing patients with complex long‑term conditions, including:

  • Rheumatic heart disease
  • Autoimmune conditions
  • Infectious diseases rarely seen in major city hospitals

You’ll have broad exposure to medical subspecialties through:

  • General medical clinics
  • Dedicated Hepatitis/HIV, Respiratory, and Diabetes clinics
  • Immunology and Haematology case conferences

You’ll also work closely with visiting specialists in cardiology, nephrology, and rheumatology.

You’ll be supervised by senior general physicians with expertise in:

  • Respiratory medicine
  • Diabetes
  • Rheumatic heart disease
  • Viral hepatitis
  • Obstetric medicine

There are opportunities to take part in clinical audit and research projects. After‑hours work is minimal, offering a good work‑life balance and time to enjoy the Kimberley’s natural surroundings.

Essential qualifications

  • Current registration as a medical practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Be eligible for Advanced Training in General Medicine in 2026 (including successful completion of RACP Part 1 and Part 2 exams).
  • Successfully passed the FRACP written and clinical examinations at the time of interview.

Subspecialty advanced trainees doing dual training in General Medicine are strongly encouraged to apply.
