Formal notification of RACP accreditation until 2029

As we close out the year, I am delighted to share some good news. The Australian Medical Council has accredited the RACP’s specialist medical programs and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programs for a period of four years, up to 31 March 2029.

The RACP was assessed to have overall ‘substantially met’ the accreditation standards for specialist medical programs and criteria for CPD. This decision follows a comprehensive assessment program, which many of you participated in throughout 2024.

Following on from this decision, the Medical Board of Australia has approved the College’s programs as continuing to provide qualifications for the purposes of specialist registration.

Te Kaunihera Rata o Aotearoa | the Medical Council of New Zealand, which partnered with the AMC throughout the assessment program, is in the process of finalising its accreditation decision.

Professor Inam Haq, Executive General Manager Education Learning and Assessment said,

“I am delighted with the accreditation outcome. We have a number of conditions to meet, which reflect work the College was already doing to improve the member experience, training and working with our health jurisdiction partners and communities to improve health outcomes.

"This is a reflection of the expertise and amazing staff, trainees and Fellows we have in our College. We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the accreditation assessment in 2024."

We have been given 36 conditions of accreditation to address over the next three-years, which we are already progressing via a range of existing and new initiatives.

I wish to thank Professor Haq; our CEO, Steffen Faurby; our Executive General Manager Professional Practice, Dr Louise Rigby and the College members and teams who contributed to the reaccreditation assessment, which supported a genuine process and this great accreditation outcome.

More information on the accreditation process and the accreditation reports for specialist medical programs and CPD programs is available on the RACP website.

Kind regards,

Professor Jennifer Martin
RACP President
