Bendigo Health, VIC

Description

The Endocrinology Accredited Registrar has responsibilities across Bendigo Health and includes in-patient and out-patient work. The registrar attends and plays a key role in the following clinics: General Diabetes, General Endocrinology, Endocrine-Pregnancy, High Risk Foot, Insulin Pump, and Endocrine-Oncology clinics.

Trainees will encounter a range of conditions within general diabetes with the total inpatient numbers include Endocrine Bed Card patients (maximum of 6), and a consultative service for patients under other hospital teams across a broad spectrum of specialties. As a result, total inpatient numbers can vary but generally remain between 6 and 12. Involvement in emergency diabetes/endocrine care is expected in addition to patient follow up.

The registrar is a key person who works closely with all members of staff and must communicate effectively with consultants within unit and across other specialties, and referring GPs. Excellent communication with the diabetes education service is essential. Major challenges for the Doctor include time management, especially with division of responsibilities across several departments, and development of core endocrine knowledge and perspective.
