The Staff Specialist will provide contemporary, comprehensive specialist services in general medicine, assist in the education role at Kempsey District Hospital, and deliver clinical care to patients within the Hastings Macleay Clinical Network. Reporting to the Hastings Macleay Clinical Director of Medicine, the role requires providing high-quality, patient-centred care while supporting the hospital's clinical education initiatives.
Overview:
Kempsey District Hospital is an 81-bed, Level 3 facility with a Level 4, 24-hour Emergency Department. The hospital offers a range of specialist services including:
- High dependency
- General medicine
- Surgical day procedures
- Drug and alcohol services
- Mental health
- Renal dialysis
- Rehabilitation
- Obstetrics (including a maternity unit with approximately 250 births per year)
Additional services available at the hospital include physiotherapy, dietetics, social work, occupational therapy, and Aboriginal health. Diagnostic services on-site include pathology, CT scans, ultrasound, and general x-ray.
Kempsey is located between Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour on the Macleay Valley River, surrounded by national parks and just a short drive from the pristine beaches of the Macleay Valley Coast. With a population of around 28,000, Kempsey offers a variety of public and private schools, sporting and recreation facilities, and shopping precincts.
