Permanent Staff Specialist (1.0 FTE) in Integrated and Community Health
Department: Supportive and Palliative Care
We're seeking a skilled Palliative Care physician to join our multidisciplinary Supportive and Palliative Care Service.
The role involves working as the Medical Lead in the Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals Sector of the Community Palliative Care Service, while also contributing to patient care in the inpatient sector.
The WSLHD of Supportive and Palliative Care Service is dynamic and multidisciplinary highly functioning team of dedicated health professionals comprised of physicians, specialist nurses, allied health, aboriginal palliative care workers. We function as one integrated service working across all sectors of our LHD in partnership with clinicians from other specialist services and primary health care to deliver exceptional specialist Palliative Care to those people and families living with complexity of symptoms in the setting of a life limiting illness and/or the end-of-life phase of an illness.
Essential qualifications
- Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellow of both the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and the Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine (FAChPM) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.
- Possess a sound clinical knowledge in Palliative Medicine shown through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the position’s requirements.
- Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:
- High level interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision.
- Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.
- A demonstrated interest and capacity to engage in the cross-cultural delivery of
Palliative Care to the diverse communities of WSLHD.
- An understanding of the implication of the social determinants of health and an
interest in working to deliver equitable access to health care will be important to this role.
- A commitment to working with primary health and RACF clinicians to further their capacity to deliver quality palliative and end of life care to their patients and residents.
