The Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (AFPHM) President’s Awards for Outstanding Contribution recognise Fellows and trainees who have made a notable contribution to the Faculty in any of the following areas:

• education, training and assessment
• policy and advocacy
• trainee commitment
• other

Recipients

Dr Satyamurthy Anuradha | 2021 recipient

Dr Anuradha (Anu) is a public health physician from Queensland. She has been associated with the Faculty of Public Health Medicine for over 8 years, most recently as Chair of the Faculty Assessment Committee. She currently works as the medical lead for the largest public health unit in Queensland located south of the river in Brisbane.

Anu graduated in Medicine from South India and trained initially as an Ophthalmologist in the UK but was drawn towards the bigger picture whilst doing her MPH at Cardiff University. She holds a PhD in Public Health from the University of Queensland and was recently awarded an Associate Fellowship by the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators.

Dr Margaret Young | 2021 recipient

Dr Margaret Young describes herself as a 'generalist' Public Health Physician. Having dipped her early post-graduate toes into emergency medicine and general practice, Margaret’s pathway into public health medicine emerged whilst volunteering with a small NGO in Cambodia from 1993 to 1996. Her career with Queensland Health as a public health physician has spanned Departmental and Public Health Unit roles, mostly in regional Queensland. She has had opportunity to contribute credibly to public health through:

• health protection and health promotion
• policy development and implementation
• research
• advocacy
• participation in training and assessment

She is currently relocating from Wide Bay, Queensland to Tasmania where she hopes to develop the right side of her brain – whilst remaining engaged with some of the key public health challenges of our time.

No awards were made in 2022.

Eligibility

A nominee must be a Fellow or active Advanced Trainee of the AFPHM, nominated by a current Fellow or Advanced Trainee of the AFPHM.

A nominee is ineligible if they:

• submit a nomination on their own behalf
• have received a President’s Award within the last 3 years

Prize

The recipients will be formally acknowledged at a Faculty event in 2024.

Before submitting your nomination, read the terms and conditions and notify your nominee of your intent.

Nominations must be submitted in PDF format to foundation@racp.edu.au, including:

1. a completed nomination form (DOC)
2. CV of the nominee
3. letters of support from referees
4. other relevant supporting documentation — 2 documents maximum, no more than 3 pages each

Selection process

An Award Review Panel comprised of the AFPHM President and 2 other AFPHM Fellows will review all the nominations. 

The AFPHM reserves the right not to make an award if all nominations received don't sufficiently meet the criteria.
