My newly commissioned rural CCU/ICU accepted a young farmer with a major myocardial infarct. Twice responding to defibrillation after VF, he complained that he felt kicked by a mule. Fully recovered he conscientiously visited all future CCU patients to offer support and motivation.
Attending an RACP congress, I joined a careers in Public Health Medicine seminar. An ex-Registrar then outlined that I had taught her all she knew of health policy, then a Faculty President suggested that I should have been asked to talk on options for PHM in the private sector. I was embarrassed and moved about my impact on/with colleagues.
Arriving at an RACP Congress following major trauma, I was greeted with "we thought you were dead" -- not so.
