Summary

Expressions of interest are invited from members to join the Regional, Rural, and Remote Physician Special Interest Group (SIG).

Description

This Special Interest Group is open to all RACP members (Fellows and trainees) and is designed to be flexible, inclusive, and member-led. The Special Interest Group is not a traditional committee and does not operate with fixed meeting schedules or formal appointment terms. Instead, it provides a way for members to contribute their perspectives, expertise, and lived experience to College work relating to regional, rural, and remote healthcare.

The Regional, Rural, and Remote Physician SIG acts as a point of reference for the College on matters affecting physicians and communities in regional, rural, and remote settings across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.

The Group supports the College’s commitment to equitable health outcomes by:

  • providing advice and input on regional, rural, and remote workforce, training, and practice issues
  • contributing to College initiatives, strategies, and consultations as needed
  • strengthening connections between the College and members working in, or committed to, regional, rural, and remote healthcare.
What makes this Special Interest Group different?
  • This is not a committee
  • Membership is intentionally flexible and designed to fit around members’ professional and personal commitments
  • No fixed meeting schedule
  • No standing agenda or ongoing workload
  • Contributions are as-needed, interest-based, and opt-in
  • Members may be contacted for advice, feedback, or consultation on specific topics or pieces of work

This allows members to contribute in ways that are meaningful to them, without the expectations or obligations of a formal governance role.

Our commitment to inclusivity

The RACP is committed to inclusive and respectful committee environments, and to ensuring its governance structures reflect the breadth of perspectives across its membership and the communities it serves.
When assessing expressions of interest, the College considers skills and experience alongside the perspectives and lived experience applicants may bring. Any information shared is voluntary and will be treated respectfully.

The RACP recognises Māori as tangata whenua and Te Tiriti o Waitangi partners in Aotearoa New Zealand, and acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Indigenous peoples of Australia and Pacific peoples as recognised within the Indigenous Strategic Framework.

Consistent with the RACP Constitution and the Indigenous Strategic Framework, and informed by Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Uluru Statement from the Heart, the College is committed to upholding Indigenous leadership, the rights of Indigenous peoples to self-determination, and ensuring cultural safety across committee environments.

This is not positioned as a subset of diversity, but reflects distinct status, leadership, rights, and contribution
