Travel Grants

Applications open for 2027 15 June to 31 July 2026.

Travel Grants are intended to support short periods of research. They may be used to cover travelling or re-establishment costs for those taking up a postdoctoral fellowship overseas or research training

Bushell Travelling Fellowship in Medicine or the Allied Sciences

Purpose: To further research overseas. Funds to be used for research support or stipend.
Value: Up to AUD$30,000 for 1 year.
Eligibility: Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand Fellows or Advanced Trainees of the RACP's Divisions, Faculties and Chapters who are:

  • enrolled in a research higher degree or within 2 years of completion of a research higher degree
  • Australia or Aotearoa New Zealand residents

Tenable: Outside your country of residence.
Special requirements: Applicants are to describe in their application the benefits that they would if awarded the Fellowship.

Alex Cohen Travel Grant in Internal Medicine

Purpose: To support physicians to enhance skills or undertake further studies in the field of Internal Medicine. Funds may be used to:

  • cover travel or establishment costs
  • gain new technical expertise
  • train at an appropriate institution
  • take up a clinical or research attachment

Value: Up to AUD$10,000.
Eligibility: Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand Fellows and trainees of the RACP's Divisions, Faculties and Chapters.
Tenable: Outside your country of residence.

Robert and Elizabeth Albert Travel Grant

Purpose: To provide support for the purposes of furthering international collaboration in research. Funds are to be used to allow for travel to appropriate settings overseas.
Value: Up to AUD$10,000.
Eligibility: Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand Fellows and trainees of the RACP's Divisions, Faculties and Chapters who are within 7 years of completing their research higher degree.
Tenable: Outside your country of residence.

AFRM Bruce Ford Travel Fellowship

Purpose: To assist AFRM Fellows and trainees who wish to undertake formal research training by taking up an overseas research position.

The position, which would provide training in research methodology, should be part of a formal course of study leading to a postgraduate qualification (Masters, PhD, or equivalent research higher degree). Funding can be used for stipend support or travel support.

Value: Up to AUD$10,000.
Eligibility: Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand Fellows or Advanced Trainees of the Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine.
Tenable: Outside your country of residence.

AFOEM Registrar Travel Fellowship

Purpose: To provide the opportunity for an AFOEM registrar to undertake overseas study in an aspect of occupational and environmental medicine. The Fellowship can be used for both education and research but doesn't require the trainee to establish a research project uniquely for the award. The funds can be used to:

  • travel to appropriate settings overseas
  • an occupational and environmental medicine attachment
  • actively participate in a conference or scientific meeting, for example as a member of a panel or to present a paper or poster

Value: Up to AUD$10,000.
Eligibility: Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand registrars of the Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, who reside in Australia or Aotearoa New Zealand at the time of their application.
Tenable: Outside your country of residence.
Special requirements: The successful applicant will be required to complete a report within 6 months of the completing their Fellowship for publication in the AFOEM eBulletin and/or on the RACP website.

Margorie Hooper Scholarship (SA)

Purpose: To help facilitate postgraduate study for the recipient outside of South Australia, undertake further training in their field of medicine, to provide stipend or project support.
Value: Up to AUD$10,000.
Eligibility: Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand Fellows and trainees of the RACP's Divisions, Faculties and Chapters who currently reside in South Australia.
Tenable: Anywhere outside of South Australia.

Chong Family Travelling Fellowship for Cardiovascular Science

Purpose: To support a clinician scientist to undertake research or studies in the field of Cardiovascular Science to promote translational research, which is focused on improving cardiovascular health and treatments by moving research findings from the laboratory to real-world clinical practice. The funds may be used for research or stipend support.

Special conditions: The recipient is required to present their research at either in person or via videoconferencing to the Westmead Institute for Medical Research, Westmead Hospital or a suitable alternative within 2 years of completion of Fellowship.

Value: Up to AUD$10,000.
Eligibility: Fellows and Advanced trainees of the RACP who are:

  • enrolled in a research higher degree or
  • within 3 years of having completed a PhD
  • residents of Australia or Aotearoa New Zealand at the time of application
Tenable: Outside your country of residence
