Host:
National Blood Authority
The National Blood Authority (NBA) is pleased to invite you to an upcoming webinar designed specifically for medical professionals who prescribe immunoglobulin (Ig) for patients. This session will be held on 17 April 2026, from 12:30 to 1:30 pm (AEST), and we encourage you to join us to learn more about your responsibilities and the practicalities involved in prescribing Ig under the national arrangements.
The NBA manages Australia's Ig products to ensure there is an adequate, secure and affordable supply for Australians who need them. Ig products must be directed to patients who are most likely to benefit from Ig therapy, and have no other safe and effective alternative treatments. Before prescribing Ig, medical professionals must secure authorisation to access Ig through BloodSTAR (Australia's online system for managing requests and authorisations for government-funded Ig products). This approval process is vital, as it ensures that Ig is prescribed in an appropriate manner, aligning with the ‘Criteria for the clinical use of immunoglobulin in Australia (The Criteria)’.
This webinar is especially valuable for registrars, early-career prescribers, and anyone currently prescribing Ig who would like to better understand the approval process and their obligations. The session will provide a clear explanation of the responsibilities prescribers have under the national program. We will also walk you through the steps to gain approval, and highlight tips to make this process smoother.
By attending, you will gain a practical understanding of:
- Overview of the key components of the Ig Governance program at the NBA
- How to use BloodSTAR
- The approval process and how to navigate it efficiently
- Key responsibilities of prescribers
Whether you are a registrar about to prescribe Ig for the first time, or you have been prescribing for a while and want a refresher, this session will give you the knowledge to fulfil your obligations.
A recording will be available to all who register, in case you can’t make it on the day.
We look forward to welcoming you and supporting you in providing the best care for your patients.<./p>
