The Australian Diabetes Society is running its annual Practical Skills Course for First Year Trainees in Adult Endocrinology over 2 days.

Day 1 (in-person)
Saturday,
8:00am – 6:15pm (AEDT)
Crowne Plaza Hotel, Melbourne

Day 2 (online)
Saturday,
9:30am – 5:30pm (AEST)
Online virtual event

The 2-day course focuses on hands-on practical skills required to effectively care for people with diabetes in inpatient and ambulatory clinical settings. It will be run by senior endocrinologists and other diabetes health professionals. The program consists of lecture sessions and small-group workshops on the following topics:

  1. Key landmark trials in CVRM
  2. Prescribing medications for type 2 diabetes
  3. Measuring glucose levels
  4. Insulin and other injectable therapies
  5. Managing inpatient glycaemia, including peri-operative management
  6. Managing the diabetic foot (including ulcer management and footwear)
  7. Programming insulin pumps (with hands-on experience)
  8. Diabetes technology downloads (insulin pump / CGM)
  9. Case studies in Type 1 Diabetes & Type 2 Diabetes
  10. Diabetes eye examination & retinopathy

Supervisors are encouraged to advise incoming first year trainees of this course.

Registration fee: $176 (inc. $16 GST) for both days.
Full payment is required at the time of completing the online registration. Please note no refunds will be issued if cancelled after .

Registration conditions

  • Registration is only open to First Year Advanced Trainees in Adult Endocrinology
  • Trainees must be undertaking the RACP Physicians Training Program in 2026
  • Trainees are required to attend both days to receive a certificate of attendance
