Public Health Medicine

The curriculum for Advanced Training in Public Health Medicine has been redesigned. From 2027, first year trainees will be enrolled in the new curriculum.

Advanced training curriculum renewal 5 stage process implement stage highlighted

The Public Health Medicine (PHM) curriculum was redesigned through a 5-stage process. It has been widely consulted on and approved by the College Education Committee.

We're now working to carefully plan the implementation of the new curriculum from 1 January 2027.

The new curriculum is a competency-based program that includes new learning goals, assessment tools, criteria for progression throughout the phases of training, and will be supported by a new technology platform, the Training Management Platform (TMP).

Revised entry requirements

Important changes to the entry criteria for Advanced Training in Public Health Medicine will come into effect from 1 January 2027.

Trainees who have successfully applied for entry to Public Health Medicine training have until 31 December 2026 to commence training and start their training position. They will be enrolled in the current PREP program.

Trainees who have successfully applied to commence training but have not yet started will have until 31 December 2026 to start their training position. They will be enrolled in the current PREP program.

Entry to the PREP training program will close permanently on 31 December 2026. All new PHM trainees from 1 January 2027 will follow the new curriculum, including the new entry requirements.
