Applications are invited for the 2027 General Medicine Advanced Training clinical year, commencing February 2027, for a 2-year appointment with the possibility of extension. Applicants must be PGY5+ by February 2027.

Canberra Health Services (CHS) delivers high-quality, person-centred acute, sub-acute, primary and community healthcare to the ACT and surrounding regions. Medical staff enjoy excellent employment conditions under the ACTPS Medical Practitioners Enterprise Agreement 2023–2026. General Physicians provide holistic, comprehensive care for patients with complex medical needs across inpatient and ambulatory settings, working closely with subspecialty and multidisciplinary teams.

The CHS General Medicine Advanced Training Program offers diverse clinical and educational experiences to prepare trainees for successful physician careers across metropolitan and regional practice. CHS is accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians for two years of Advanced Training in General and Acute Medicine, with rotations across Canberra Hospital and North Canberra Hospital. Training includes exposure to complex and undifferentiated medical presentations, acute medicine, ambulatory care and subspecialty clinics.

Canberra Hospital's Acute Medical Unit provides evidence-based care for patients requiring short-stay assessment and management, while North Canberra Hospital's large general medical unit offers broad experience across adult medicine, supported by ICU, CCU, stroke and endoscopy services. The program also includes dedicated education, research and protected learning time. Trainees are encouraged to undertake research, attend scientific meetings, and develop skills in teaching, leadership and healthcare management. 

The successful candidates will be required to:

  • Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check
  • Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy
