AChAM Nghi Phung Research Project Prize

The AChAM Nghi Phung Research Project Prize is awarded every 2 years to the best Advanced Training Research Project on addiction medicine.

This prize is named in honour of Associate Professor Phung’s passion for research and her enormous contribution to the alcohol and other drug field.

2025 recipient | Dr Eric Hadinata

Dr Eric Hadinata is a Co-Chair of the RACGP Victoria Alcohol and Other Drugs Committee and a passionate advocate for advancing clinical standards and education in addiction care.

With a background in General Practice, he is an advocate for the central role of primary care in supporting patients who use substances.

Dr Hadinata was awarded the 2025 AChAM Nghi Phung Research Project Prize by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians for his research on the impact of telehealth modalities on attendance rates in addiction clinics.

His work reflects a commitment to improving access and engagement in addiction medicine through innovative, evidence-based approaches.

He completed his Advanced Training in Addiction Medicine with the RACP in June 2025 and maintains strong interests in research, education, and stigma reduction.

Dr Hadinata currently practices at the Victoria Clinic in Melbourne, where he continues to champion patient-centred care and innovative solutions in the AOD sector.

Eligibility

You must be a registered Australasian Chapter of Addiction Medicine (AChAM) Advanced Trainee upon submission of your Advanced Training Research Project for assessment. New Fellows who are in their first year of Fellowship are also eligible to apply. 

Your Advanced Training Research Project must have been submitted between 1 January 2024 and 31 December 2024.

Prize

The successful recipient is awarded:

  • a cash prize of $2,500
  • a prize certificate formally presented at the International Medicine in Addiction (IMiA) conference in August 2025.

Selection process

All applications are reviewed by an Award Review Panel comprised of 3 AChAM members. 

The Award Review Panel reserves the right not to award the AChAM Nghi Phung Research Project Prize if there are no applications that meet a sufficient standard.
