Professor Russell Mardon Viner

Professor Russell Mardon VinerProfessor Russell Mardon Viner is President of the Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health (RCPCH). Russell is also Professor of Adolescent Health at the University College London Institute of Child Health, a paediatrician seeing young people with diabetes each week and Director of the Department of Health Obesity Policy Research Unit.

Russell has a long history of leadership in national health policy, from involvement in the 2005 National Service Framework to ensuring children and young people were central to the 2019 NHS Long Term Plan.

He is currently Vice Chair of the NHS England Children and Young People’s Transformation Board and Chair of the Stakeholder Council. As clinical director for the NHS, Russell was responsible for leading healthcare strategy for London’s 2 million children and young people.

Russell was one of the founders of adolescent health in the UK. He set up the first adolescent medicine service and went on to become the UK's first professor of adolescent health. He was a founder of the UK Association for Young People’s Health and now serves as patron.

Russell served as vice president of the International Association for Adolescent Health. He was also an advisor for the Departments of Health and Education in England and for the World Health Organisation and UNICEF internationally. He is an executive committee member for the International Paediatric Association and will be president of the 2021 International Paediatric Congress.

His research focuses on population health, policy and health services for children and young people. Academically, he has published over 200 peer reviewed papers and is currently named on £20 million in research grants.

Dr Tane Taylor

Dr Tane TaylorDr Tane Taylor is Distinguished Fellow of the Royal Aotearoa New Zealand College of General Practitioners (RNZCGP). Tane is a family doctor, GP teacher and primary care consultant. He works as a general practitioner in South Auckland.

Tane is of Tainui, Te Arawa, Tākitimu, English and Scottish descent. He is the Republic of Albania Honorary Consul to Aotearoa New Zealand.

For 6 years, Tane chaired the RNZCGP Māori Faculty: Te Akoranga a Maui. He is a member of the RNZCGP’s Education Advisory Group and chairs the Indigenous and Minority Groups Health Issues Working Party at the World Organization of Family Doctors. He is an honorary senior lecturer with the University of Auckland and examiner and assessor of the GP Fellowship Training program. He was a senior assessor for the RNZCGP’s Cornerstone Practice Accreditation Program.

Tane has actively contributed to the mahi (work) of the RACP as a member of the Māori Health Committee since April 2014 and the College Council since May 2017.

He has also contributed to the broader health sector in Aotearoa New Zealand, through involvement in establishment of Te Ohu Rata o Aotearoa (Te ORA) – Māori Medical Practitioners Association and Te Akoranga a Maui. He has served as a board member of the New Zealand Medical Association and member of the National Health IT Board.
