Description
The Professional Services Review agency is an independent statutory body that investigates potential inappropriate practices in the provision of services under Medicare, Pharmaceutical, or Child Dental Benefits programs. Cases are referred to the PSR Director by the Chief Executive (or delegate) of Medicare.
The PSR Panel provides a body of clinical professionals from which Committees can be drawn to undertake these investigations.
The powers and functions of the PSR are set out as part VAA of the Heath Insurance Act 1973 (the Act).
RACP Fellows from the following specialties are invited to apply:
- Gastroenterology & Hepatology
- Rehabilitation Medicine
- Palliative Medicine
- General Medicine
Terms of appointment
- All appointments to the PSR are determined by the Federal Minister for Health and Ageing as part of a selection process external to the College.
- Meetings are held as -needed.
- Successful candidates are appointed for a 5-year term.
- Sitting fees are paid per the Remuneration Tribunal’s Determination for part-time public officers, including superannuation where applicable.
- Travel and accommodation are reimbursed according to PSR policy.
Note: any successful applicant to the PSR Panel would undertake the role in an individual capacity and not as a formal representative of the College.
