Professor Tsang is a clinician researcher, Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Sydney, and Senior Staff Specialist in Endocrinology at Royal North Shore Hospital. Her primary focus is endocrinology and cancer.
She began her research career with a PhD on the Molecular Pathogenesis of Phaeochromocytoma and Paraganglioma at the Kolling Institute of Medical Research, University of Sydney. Her ongoing research includes thyroid cancer and endocrine immunotherapy-related adverse events, for which she is internationally recognised.
Dr Tsang has extensive clinical experience managing aggressive anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC), has published the Australian Protocol on its management, and has presented on multimodal approaches. She has participated in clinical trials, including selpercatinib for RET-mutated thyroid carcinoma, contributing to its adoption as standard treatment. She is currently involved in the IFIRST trial, investigating BRAF and MEK inhibition in redifferentiating radioactive iodine refractory (RAIR) thyroid carcinoma — a multicentre Australian study contributing to global literature.
Her research and presentations also cover:
- Endocrine immune-related effects of immune checkpoint inhibitors
- Endocrine cancers including thyroid cancer, phaeochromocytoma, and paraganglioma
- Familial endocrine syndromes
- Type 3c diabetes secondary to pancreatic surgery
Dr Tsang is the endocrine co-chair of the Northern Sydney Local Health District Diabetes and Endocrinology Network, co-chair of the Endocrine Subcommittee for the Agency for Clinical Innovation (ACI), and coordinator of the NSW ACT Endocrine Meetings. She has contributed to policy and guideline development, including state-wide thyroid carcinoma management during COVID-19 and current ACI guidelines on adrenal incidentalomas. She also collaborates with the Primary Health Network on NSLHD Healthpathways and eReferral optimisation.
Dedicated to medical education, Dr Tsang coordinates the final year of the Sydney Medical Programme, supervising over 280 students annually. She has served as Director of Assistants in Medicine at NSLHD and is involved in endocrine assessment and PhD supervision.
