Integrated Care for Perioperative Medicine

The Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) has recently published its Perioperative Care Framework. This guiding framework provides a practical resource to guide practitioners working in perioperative care by:

• identifying key steps and principles in the surgical patient’s perioperative care journey
• providing recommendations about how these principles might be operationalised in practice
• providing resources that support the evidence behind these recommendations and/or their implementation in practice.

The Perioperative Care Framework was developed by the ANZCA’s Perioperative Care Working Group and can be accessed here. It is one aspect of the development of ANZCA’s diploma in perioperative medicine, which is a multi-disciplinary collaboration that aims to establish an effective, integrated and collaborative perioperative care model. ANZCA aims to roll out the diploma in the second half of 2023.
