Preparing our accreditors for the 2027 transition to the AMC Model Standards

The Training Accreditation Services team successfully delivered the 4th Annual Basic Training Accreditors Calibration Day on 17 September. The day brought together accreditors from Adult Internal Medicine and Paediatrics & Child Health Medicine in Basic Training. We explored the new outcomes-based standards and risk framework, and work through practical scenarios to strengthen consistency in accreditation decision-making. 

Through interactive activities, expert presentations and collaborative discussions, accreditors built confidence in applying the Model Standards, assessing evidence and exercising professional judgement. Discussions also explored the importance of considering the context and diversity of training settings, ensuring accreditation decisions are fair, evidence-based and defensible.  

Accreditors left feeling prepared to take on the new outcomes-based approach, which is an important milestone in preparing for the 2027 changes to accreditation. 

The successful delivery reflects the TAS team’s significant work in developing practical resources, guidance and learning activities to support accreditors through this significant change.
