Dr Rod McClure is a firm supporter of the Supervisor Professional Development Program (SPDP). He graduated MBBS from the University of Sydney and spent 10 years in clinical and public health practice and was awarded a PhD in Epidemiology and Population Health. He is also a current Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (AFPHM).

Dr McClure has a rich career in academic research with period of clinical, public health and administration. He served as Director at the Division of Analysis Research and Practice Integration at the US Centres of Disease Control and Prevention (2014-2017) and Visiting Scientist at the Harvard School of Public Health (2014-2020).

Why did you decide to become an SPDP facilitator?

In early 2022, I joined the Faculty Education Committee of AFPHM year and completed SPDP training in June.  Even though I had already spent much of the last 30 years teaching in university settings, I found the SPDP training an extremely valuable and most enjoyable exercise. I am really keen to help facilitate a similar experience for my colleagues.

Why do you think your colleagues should complete the SPDP workshops?

The future of our profession is critically dependent on how we develop the passion for learning that lies within us all. I am here to help support College Supervisors to support Trainee Fellows. Together we can work together to make sure the future of the College is in safe hands.

We would like to thank Dr McClure for his continued support for the SPDP program.
